Addendum Questions for Interviewing
1. What were the strengths and weaknesses of your past supervisors?
This will test their maturity. If they take repeated stabs at former bosses, no matter how subtle, you may be dealing with someone who has a problem with authority.
2. What was your biggest failure in your last job?
This question is to see if they can accept blame. If candidate puts it off on others and doesn’t accept any of the responsibility, you may have a problem on your hands.
3. Listen to pronouns used, especially in how they answer the above questions. Do they always say “I” this and “I” that, or do they refer to “we” when talking about former jobs? “We” people tend to be team oriented. It means they build strong team bonds and probably will bond with your team.
4. Learn to spot “producers”. Don’t focus on job descriptions – anyone can write those. Focus on specific projects they’ve completed and review the results. Have them talk in length about the process. Hire people with a proven production record – not fancy job descriptions.
